A waveform is the picture of a sound that everyone recognises — it says "listen to this" on a podcast cover, a blog post or a thumbnail without a word of explanation. This draws yours as a flat PNG at the size and colours you choose: a wide banner, blog width, or a square for a cover. Split the channels into two rows to show the stereo picture, or keep them together for the cleaner single shape. What a waveform shows, and what it does not
The shape is amplitude over time: how far the signal swings at each moment. It tells you instantly where the loud and quiet passages are, where silence sits, and whether a recording is clipping — a waveform with flat tops has been driven past maximum and is distorting.
What it cannot show is pitch, tone or content. Two entirely different recordings at the same level look almost identical. As an illustration it says "audio" perfectly; as analysis it only speaks to level.

Why does my waveform look like a solid block?
The recording is heavily compressed or clipped, so it sits near maximum almost all of the time. That is what modern loud masters look like; it is the level, not the drawing.
