Restore Old Photos
100% private — runs on your device, never uploaded. Works offline once loaded.
Old family photos are exactly the pictures people least want to hand to a website. This restorer works entirely in your browser. Add a scan or a phone picture of a print and it finds dust specks and hairline scratches for you, marked in red so you can see them: paint over anything it missed, or erase a mark that is really part of the picture, such as a catchlight in an eye. It fills them in to match their surroundings, then — if you choose — reduces film grain and scanner noise without softening edges, colourises a black-and-white photo, and can enlarge a small scan to twice its size with AI. Compare before and after with a slider, then download.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Detection, repair and the AI models all run on your own device. The models are downloaded from this site once; the photo never leaves your browser.
How are scratches found?
By looking for small or thin marks that stand out sharply from smooth surroundings. Real texture — hair, a beard, wrinkles — tends to come as a highlight beside a shadow and is left alone. It finds most specks and scratches but not every one: faint marks and dark specks on dark clothing can be missed, and a few genuine highlights can be caught. That is why every mark is shown for you to correct before anything is changed.
Can it fix tears, stains or missing corners?
Paint over the damage with the brush and it is filled in with an inpainting model that invents plausible surroundings. That can work well across backgrounds and clothing; it cannot bring back a face or a detail that is not in the photo at all.
Does it sharpen blurry faces?
No. The face-restoration models that exist are either licensed for non-commercial use only or not proven to run in a browser, so this tool does not invent facial detail. Grain reduction keeps edges crisp and AI enlargement adds real detail to small scans, but a face that is out of focus stays out of focus.
How big can the photo be?
Photos up to 4,096 pixels on their longest side are restored at full size (larger ones are reduced to that). AI enlargement is slow on a laptop without a graphics card, so it is offered for photos up to about 400 × 400 pixels — small scans and thumbnails, which are the ones that need it.
