How the total is calculated
For each row the tool converts the start and end times into minutes since midnight, subtracts one from the other to get the shift length, then takes off any break minutes you entered. Every valid row is added together and the grand total is shown two ways: as hours and minutes (for example 8h 45m) and as decimal hours (8.75), which is the format most payroll systems expect.
Decimal hours are simply total minutes divided by sixty. That is why 30 minutes shows as 0.50 and 15 minutes as 0.25 — handy when you multiply hours by an hourly rate to estimate pay.
Overnight shifts and breaks
If you type an end time that is earlier than the start time — say 22:00 to 06:00 — the tool assumes the shift ran past midnight and adds a full day so the result is a sensible eight hours rather than a negative number. This makes it reliable for night shifts, hospitality, and on-call work.
Breaks are subtracted as plain minutes, so a 30-minute unpaid lunch reduces that row's total by half an hour. If a break would make a shift negative, the row is floored at zero rather than subtracting time you did not work.

What time format should I use?
Use 24-hour HH:MM times in the picker (for example 09:00 or 17:30). The tool reads the browser time inputs directly.
How do I total a whole week?
Add one row per shift with the Add row button. Every row is summed, so you can enter all seven days and read a single weekly total.
What are decimal hours?
Decimal hours express minutes as a fraction of an hour — 45 minutes is 0.75. Most payroll and invoicing systems prefer this format for multiplying by an hourly rate.
Does it subtract unpaid breaks?
Yes. Enter the break length in minutes for each shift and it is removed from that shift's total before everything is added up.
Can I remove a row I added by mistake?
Yes. Each row has a remove button, and the total recalculates immediately after you delete it.
