Enter a pay amount and its period, along with your hours per week and weeks per year, to instantly convert between hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and annual pay. Everything is calculated on your device.
How the conversions work
The calculator converts every figure to an annual salary first, then divides back down into the other periods. It uses two key settings you control: hours per week and weeks per year. Hours per week multiplied by weeks per year gives your total working hours in a year, which is the bridge between an hourly rate and a yearly salary.
For example, an hourly rate becomes annual pay by multiplying it by hours per week and weeks per year. A monthly salary becomes annual by multiplying by twelve. Once the annual figure is known, the hourly, daily, weekly and monthly equivalents all follow from it, so every number in the grid stays perfectly consistent.
Why hours and weeks matter
The same annual salary can imply very different hourly rates depending on how many hours you actually work. Someone working 35 hours a week earns a higher effective hourly rate than someone working 45 hours for the same yearly pay. Setting hours per week accurately is what makes the hourly figure meaningful.
Weeks per year captures paid time off and unpaid breaks. Using 52 assumes you are paid every week of the year, while a lower number reflects unpaid leave or contract gaps. Adjusting it lets contractors and part-time workers see a realistic picture rather than a full-year assumption.
- Hours per week: sets your effective hourly rate
- Weeks per year: reflects paid weeks, holidays and unpaid gaps
- Days per week: used to split weekly pay into a daily figure
Who it helps
This tool is useful when comparing job offers quoted in different units. A role advertised at an hourly rate can be compared directly against one quoted as an annual salary, so you can judge which pays more once your real hours are factored in.
It is equally handy for freelancers and contractors setting rates. By entering a target annual income and your realistic working weeks, you can back out the hourly or daily rate you need to charge. Because it updates as you type, testing different scenarios takes seconds.
Frequently asked questions
Does it account for taxes?
No. All figures are gross pay before income tax, national insurance, pension or other deductions, which vary widely by country and situation.
How is the daily rate calculated?
It divides your weekly pay by days per week, so it reflects a typical working day rather than a calendar day.
What if I take unpaid time off?
Lower the weeks per year value. Using 48 instead of 52, for instance, models four unpaid weeks and reduces the annual and derived figures accordingly.
Can I convert a monthly salary to hourly?
Yes. Enter the amount, choose Month as the period, set your hours and weeks, and the hourly equivalent appears alongside every other rate.
Does overtime get included?
No. It assumes a steady rate across your stated hours. Overtime paid at a different rate would need a separate calculation.
Is my salary information private?
Yes. Every value stays in your browser and the conversions run entirely on your device.
