What this tool does
The AI Paraphraser rewrites the text you paste using different words and sentence structure while aiming to keep the original meaning. It is handy when you want a fresh way to say something, need to avoid repeating a phrase, or just want to see an alternative wording.
Because it samples as it generates, each run can produce a slightly different result. The built-in Try again button re-runs the model so you can quickly compare a few options and pick the one you like.
The model behind it
Rewordings come from Xenova/flan-t5-base, an instruction-tuned text-to-text model running through transformers.js as a text2text-generation pipeline. It is prompted to paraphrase your input with light sampling enabled for variety.
The model is quantized and self-hosted so it runs on everyday devices without a GPU. It downloads once on first use and is cached for future visits, and it is the same model used by our on-device grammar corrector.

Quality and caveats
flan-t5-base is a compact general model, so paraphrases can sometimes drift from the original meaning, shorten the text, or land close to the input. Always read the result and confirm it still says what you mean.
Keep inputs to a sentence or short paragraph for the best results. Generation is capped at 256 tokens, so long passages may be cut off — split them and reword each part on its own.

After the one-time model download it does. The model is cached in your browser, so later rewordings run without a connection.
Why does the output change every time?
Paraphrasing uses sampling with a temperature setting, which introduces variety. That is why Try again can give you a noticeably different version.
Will it keep the same meaning?
It aims to, but a small general model can occasionally shift the meaning or drop a detail, so always check the result against your original.
Is my text private?
Yes. Everything runs locally in your browser via transformers.js, and nothing is uploaded to any server.

It is built for short text. Output is limited to 256 tokens, so reword a few sentences at a time for reliable results.
